BLUFFTON, INDIANA, June 21, 2010 - Alexin LLC, America's state-of-the-art aluminum cast house, announces that a scrap surcharge of $.01 per pound will be applied to all full-price orders for the month of July 2010. This surcharge is being applied due to the unprecedented tightness (and correspondingly high cost) of scrap which has driven up the input costs for remelters. Future surcharges, when applicable, will be applied on a month to month basis.
"The continued tightness in scrap availability, caused in part by the volatile LME environment, requires that we institute a scrap surcharge." said Tom Horter, President of Alexin. "We have absorbed these higher input costs in the past through very careful cost control practices, but recent scrap pricing has breached a new threshold due to the lack of available scrap in the marketplace to support the increased demand. We will continue to work hard in managing our product availability to our valued clients but we must realize that a surcharge may occasionally be needed to off-set what we see as occasional extreme tightness and pricing. This Scrap Surcharge will be monitored and applied monthly going forward as long as the scrap tightness continues to pinch the industry's ability to support the heightened demand."
As a leader in the development of green ready aluminum, Alexin LLC's cast house produces eco-friendly aluminum billet for its North American customers.
